    Representatives from Thuringia in Germany visited Oppland on August 11 to discuss the possibilities of a future cooperation agreement. (17.08.10)

     
  • Youth climate camp 2010

    Young people from four nations were gathered in Jotunheimen from 12 to 15 August to discuss the world’s climate challenges. The camp was organized by Young Friends of the Earth and the Youth County Council in Oppland, in cooperation with the Norwegian Mountain Museum and the project Climate Park 2469. (17.08.10)

    Visit from Otjozondjupa

    A delegation from Otjozondjupa region in Namibia recently visited Oppland, and the two regions continued the discussions about cooperation areas that were initiated last year. At the end of the visit a cooperation agreement was signed. The two regions will exchange experiences within various fields: Education and culture, regional planning, agriculture, public health and planning. (10.06.10)

    European Mountain Convention in Lillehammer

    Euromontana, the European association for mountain areas, together with the Norwegian Mountain Regions Cooperation, is organising the biggest event for stakeholders from mountain areas in 2010. The conference will take place in Lillehammer (Oppland, Norway) from 15 to 17 September. (10.06.10)

     
  • Norwegian and Polish youth in Szczecin

    Climate change on the agenda in Szczecin

    10 representatives from Oppland Youth Council and Young Friends of the Earth Oppland have recently visited Szczecin in Poland and had discussions with Polish youth about climate changes and what young people can do to influence the decision makers. The meeting was one of the activities in the project “climate changes and youth – competence, networking and involvement”. The project is financed through the EU programme Youth in Action. Oppland county

Fishing in the lakeOppland county has a varied and picturesque landscape which extends from the lakes Mjøsa and Randsfjorden to the mountains Dovrefjell, Jotunheimen and Rondane. The county is divided into six regions: Nord-Gudbrandsdal, Midt-Gudbrandsdal, Lillehammer, Valdres, Gjøvik and Hadeland.

 

Oppland includes the towns Lillehammer, Gjøvik, Otta and Fagernes, Norway's highest mountain (Galdhøpiggen) and Norway’s biggest lake (Mjøsa).

 

Several museums and other attractions are situated in Oppland and tourism is important to the economy. The 1994 Winter Olympics provided the region with unique winter sports facilities and arenas.
