Political structure


The County Council

The County Council is the prinicpal elected body and consists of 37 representatives who are directly elected every 4 years. They meet 4-5 times a year to decide on matters of principle and overriding importance, including budgetary and financial planning.

In the period 2007 - 2011 the representation in the County Council is as follows:

Labour Party - 17
Centre Party - 5
Progress Party - 3
Conservative Party - 7
Socialist Left Party - 2
Liberal Party - 2
Christian Democratic Party - 1


Gro LundbyCounty Chairman

County Chairman Mrs. Gro Lundby (Labour), was elected to   
the position as Chairman of the County Council in  
2011.  

 

 

 

The County Executive Board


The County Council elects 9 representatives from among its members to form the County Executive Board. This body meets appr. once a month to make decisions and recommendations in all matters unless otherwise provided by statute.

 

The committees

The County Council has established three committees:

  • The Education Committee
  • The Culture, Environment and Regional Development Committee
  • The Transport Committee
