Responsibilities


The term county refers to the geographical area, the county council is the elected body, responsible for policy development, whileas the county authority is responsible for carrying out these policies.

The county council’s main task is to act as a regional developer, e.g. by stimulating creativity and innovation. The county council works to provide businesses with the best possible general conditions, for example by developing the transport sector.

The county council is also responsible for welfare services that are too large for each municipality to deliver on its own. Upper secondary education is one of the most important responsibility areas of the county council.
